Location:

At the very southern tip of Stockholm's archipelago, where the Baltic opens wide and the land runs out of land, lies Öja — a small island known to navigators for centuries as Landsort. Here, Sweden's oldest lighthouse has stood watch since 1689, its white tower rising above a coastline of raw, fractured rock worn smooth in places by ice and tide. The terrain is a photographer's contradiction: ancient heather carpeting the ground in violet, gnarled pines shaped by decades of salt wind, and jagged shoreline cliffs that catch the low northern light in ways that demand a tripod and patience. A handful of painted wooden houses make up the village — quiet, unhurried, and almost unchanged. There are no distractions here. Just the horizon, the light, and the stone.

Meet your guide

Hamed is a skilled photographer with many years of experience in the field of landscape photography and visual effects.

He knows the location very well and has great passion for helping other photographers develop their skills.

If you fancy learning and leveling up your photography, in a peaceful tempo, especially seascape and coastline photography, you are on a right page.

Workshop’s plan:

Landsort is reached by ferry — the trip itself sets the mood. As the boat heads south through the archipelago and the islands shrink and spread out, everything naturally slows. When Öja’s lighthouse appears, you’ll already notice the change. That’s the whole point.

Day 1:
We take the first ferry of the day, arriving at the island around midday. After settling into our accommodation — a cosy hostel sitting almost directly beneath the lighthouse — we gather as a group for a relaxed introduction session: talking through the locations we will visit over the two days, the techniques we will practice, and what each of us is hoping to find. Then we head out together on a scouting walk — getting a feel for the rocks and the shoreline, finding the angles and the details that call to us, letting the island reveal itself before we begin shooting in earnest. There is no rush in this. Good landscape photography begins with looking, and we give that the time it deserves.

In the late afternoon the light starts to work in our favour and we move to the western shore for the sunset session. You are encouraged to slow down, stay with a composition, refine it, and come back to it. The blue hour after sunset often surprises people with what it offers, so we stay out as long as the light gives us something. Dinner is together at the hostel afterwards, a good moment to share the day's first impressions over food. After dinner, we sit together for a photo editing session, looking at what we made and talking through it calmly

Day 2:

The second day opens early for the morning light. We move between the eastern shore, the lighthouse and its surrounding cliffs — following the conditions and our own curiosity. The island is so narrow that shifting from one side to the other takes no more than five minutes, so we can be responsive without ever feeling hurried. We return for breakfast before we go out again for a dedicated session for long exposure work — filters, tripods, slow water and still stone — gives everyone space to experiment at their own pace. We will visit the old village and the ancient forest to photograph different motives

Then the afternoon ferry, and the journey back.
Carpool from Uppsala and Stockholm is possible upon agreement.

Safety and difficulty:
This is an easy trip, No hiking involved. Unless we need to go to the north part of the island which is about 3 km. We will spend the majority of the day exploring on big and small rocks and you should take extra cauation as rocks can be extremely slippery next to the sea.

We strongly recommend hiking boots for ankle support, and a walking pole is a good idea. Please make sure you are comfortable walking on rocky, uneven surfaces.

You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of your equipment.
